Opening Prayer

The opening prayer was read by Senior Minister Tim Booker from Guildford Anglican Church.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Mayor, Councillor Cummings opened the Meeting with the following Acknowledgement of Country:

 

“I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land – the Darug People, and pay my respects to their elders past, present and emerging.”

 

National Anthem

At this point in the meeting the Mayor, Councillor Cummings asked all of those in attendance to stand for the playing of the Australian National Anthem.

Notice of Live Streaming of Council meeting

The Mayor, Councillor Cummings advised that the Council meeting was being streamed live on Council's website and members of the public must ensure their speech to the Council is respectful and use appropriate language.

EMM09/19-10 Mayoral Minute – Recognition of Achievements During First Cumberland Mayoral Term 2017-2019

Resolved  (Cummings)

That Council recognise and thank all staff for the many significant achievements realised over the past 2 years.

EEC09/19-229 Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor

The General Manager acted in the role of Chairperson until the Mayoral Election concluded. 

 

The General Manager advised that he has received two (2) nominations for the position of Mayor and two (2) nominations for the Position of Deputy Mayor.

 

Resolved (Attie/Sarkis)

That:

1.         Council agree to elect a Deputy Mayor for the same term as the Mayor.

2.         Council conduct the election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor by a show of hands.

3.         Council conduct the Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, and the result be declared by the Returning Officer.

4.         The incoming Mayor replace Councillor Cummings (if required) on the Floodplain Risk Management Committee and CivicRisk Mutual Board.

 

The General Manager advised that he has received nominations for the position of Mayor for Councillor Lake and Councillor Christou.

The General Manager asked all Councillors who support Councillor Lake being the first nomination received, for the position of Mayor to raise their hands.

 

Councillors Campbell, Elmore, Hamed, Huang, Lake and Saha voted for Councillor Lake. A total of 6 votes were recorded.

 

The General Manager asked all Councillors who support Councillor Christou being the second nomination received for the position of Mayor, to raise their hands.

 

Councillors Attie, Christou, Garrard, Rahme, Sarkis, Zaiter and Zreika voted for Councillor Christou. A total of 7 votes were recorded.

 

Councillor Cummings abstained from voting.

 

The General Manager declared that Councillor Christou be elected as Mayor.

 

The General Manager advised that he has received nominations for the position of Deputy Mayor for Councillor Cummings and Councillor Sarkis.

 

The General Manager asked all Councillors who support Councillor Cummings being the first nomination received, for the position of Deputy Mayor to raise their hands.

 

Councillors Campbell, Elmore, Hamed, Huang, Lake and Saha voted for Councillor Cummings. A total of 6 votes were recorded.

 

The General Manager asked all Councillors who support Councillor Sarkis being the second nomination received for the position of Deputy Mayor, to raise their hands.

 

Councillors Attie, Christou, Garrard, Rahme, Sarkis, Zaiter and Zreika voted for Councillor Sarkis. A total of 7 votes were recorded.

 

Councillor Cummings abstained from voting.

 

The General Manager declared that Councillor Sarkis be elected as Deputy Mayor.

 

 

The Mayor closed the meeting at 6:30pm.
